Hi, my name is Colton Mallouk. I’m currently a medical school applicant and am working at Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor. I’m a pilot, scuba diver, hiker, and I pretty much love doing anything outdoors.
Religious studies has always been a huge interest to me. I grew up in a Christian home and attended a Presbyterian church on Sundays and went to a Baptist elementary school. Throughout middle and high school my faith was there, but no where near as important in my life as it is today. Throughout college, I took various religious studies courses ranging from basic religious studies to exploring ancient eastern medicine techniques rooted in eastern religions. I have always had a very strong interest in the Catholic faith and explored this interest while in college. Most of my exploration was through my own reading and also through watching Fr. Mike Schmitz videos on YouTube. Another realization for me was when I studied John Chapter 6, after this I was unable to turn back as I then understood the importance and holiness of the Eucharist.
It wasn’t until I met my friend Collin in my last semester at Grand Valley that I really explored the Catholic faith with others. My friend Collin, being a recent Protestant convert himself, invited me to our school’s parish. I was hooked after attending my first couple of Masses! It was so beautiful, traditional, and there was a sense of reverence that I felt was lacking elsewhere.
I fully believe that I have found the truth that I have been seeking. I believe in the Church that Jesus Christ founded and am so happy to be here.
