Hi! My name is Carissa, and I am so, SO excited to be entering the Church! About a year and a half ago now, I started to feel like God wanted His Church to be unified, not only in heart but also in mind, in belief (Philippians 2:2, 1 Corinthians 1:10). But, I told Him that because we all have to read the Bible for ourselves, that was impossible, and I dared Him to show me how we were supposed to be one if that’s what He really wanted. In addition to wanting to be unified in belief, though, I also felt I needed something more of God than I was getting by just reading about Him, so I practically begged Him to show me how to encounter Him, as a living Being and as a friend, rather than only encountering theology and memorizing things I was supposed to believe about Him. He, in His amazing love, got right on it and, within less than a month, led me to the fullness of the faith I had held as a Protestant. He led me to the Catholic Church, where He has given His apostles and their successors authority to teach doctrine, and (even more precious to me!) where He turns bread and wine into Himself so He can be with me and become one with me, body and soul—no longer even just as a friend, but as my Spouse!
Aside from Mass and Adoration, some of my favorite things include choreography, dancing, and ministering to kids, which I have been blessed to be able to combine in the exciting world of dance teaching. I’ve been homeschooled my whole life, my favorite subjects are all of them (except geography), and I’m approximately two months away from graduating. I also love deep conversations, hiking, film editing, Turkish delight, spontaneous trips with friends, libraries, and trying to understand Thomas Aquinas.
